An attack of migraine headache is characterized by severe pain, which generally starts on one side of the head. Fever occurs infrequently during a migraine attack.

Regardless of age, gender, or race, headaches are a common occurrence and can be treated. Usually, a migraine headache accompanied by fever is caused by another issue. There are a number of causes of headaches accompanied by fever, including meningitis, encephalitis, brain abscesses, and sinus infections.

There are several conditions that can trigger migraines with fever, including:

  • Viral infections such as influenza (flu) and COVID-19 can cause fevers and worsen migraines.
  • There are two serious infection types that affect the brain: meningitis and encephalitis. Both conditions may trigger fevers and severe headaches.
  • Bacteria are microscopic, single-celled organisms that exist in their millions, inside and beyond other organisms in every environment. Fever and migraines can be caused by bacteria in the body.
